The first step toward the long term goal of achieving specialty recognition of wound care by the American Board of Medical Specialties, American Osteopathic Association and the Council of Podiatric Medical Education.
The CMET Exam is available to all physicians (MD, DO, DPM, DDS). The Physician must have a current license to practice and a minimal of 2 years experience in Wound Care either in private practice, or in a Wound Care healing center. Residency training programs that incorporate significant amount of Wound Care into their training program can qualify toward the 2 year minimal requirement.
Residents with wound healing training can take the CMET Physician Certification exam during their last year of residency. Residents passing the exam between January 1 and their graduating date become wound care certified immediately upon completion of the program.
The current examination format is 150 question multiple choice. The certification duration is 7-years, after which a recertification process is available.
NPs and PAs are eligible to certify in wound healing though APWH. The certification exam is created by and administered by NPs/PAs.
Online Review Course and Exam Preparatory Booklet are available though APWH. For more information, visit APWH.
The online review course is designed as a refresher of wound care fundamentals or a review for wound healing certification and is a must for all wound healing providers, including residents and all those entering the field of wound care.
